The Glossary

We began this story as a way to emulate the Asian Dramas that we love.  To help immerse us into the story we use a lot of Korean words as this story takes place in Seoul, Korea.  This is where we’ll keep track of the words we use and what they mean.

Abeoji – Father

Aboenim – Honored Father

Ahgassi – Young Lady / Miss

Ahjussi – Older Man / Mister

Hanok – Korean Traditional Home

Hyung – Older Brother, used by men/boys to address other men/boys who are within 10 years older.

Ilbyeong – Private First Class

충성 / Choong Sung – Loyal/Loyalty

Myeoneuri – Daughter-in-Law

Noona – Older Sister, used by men/boys to address women/girls who are within 10 years older.

Omo – Oh my Gosh

Oppa – Older Brother, used by women/girls to address men/boys who are within 10 years older.  It is also used as a term of endearment for a girl addressing her older boyfriend.  Then it means honey.

ssi – This is pronounced as shi and means Mr. / Miss / Mrs.

Won – Korean Money
